Hello boys and girls, and welcome to J's 2011 Thru Hike photo journal/blog thing. As you can see from all of the rad photos on this blog, (there are none yet, so please do not spend your precious hours on this planet scrolling up and down the page with a disgruntaled look on your face) I have not started meandering north through the 'Green Tunnel' aka Appalachian Trail. I am however in Atlanta, Georgia, home of the Brave(s), Andre 3000, Akon, and best of all The Black Lips. I will be starting my hike tomorrow at Amicalola Falls State Park and hiking the approach trail to Springer Mountain.

I am not sure how often I'll be able to update this blog as the AT shelters do not yet have wifi, McDonalds, or Starbucks, but I promise that I will update it whenever possible, unless all of my fingers are gnawed off by black bears. Perhaps investing in one of those speech-to-text programs would be worthwhile. In any case I will periodically send memory cards from the camera back to the Jersey homestead and my kind father will post them on the blog. Right now, I have to admit I'm terrified and increasingly gitty with excitement. On the airplane, from the comfort of my seat, while sipping my complimentary beverage, I came across humanity's greatest achievement and realized that for the next five-ish months, the comforts that we call on daily will be mostly unavailable for the duration of this journey.
